Colorado Hispanic Bar Association Law Exploring Program
FREE Seminar and Mock Trial Program
The Colorado Hispanic Bar Association is pleased to invite youth, ages 14 - 20, and their parents to participate in a three-part seminar on the legal profession. The CHBA Education Committee is presenting this series of seminars and has agreed to cover each student’s registration fee and will provide light snacks and refreshments. By participating in this seminar you will get an in-depth look at careers in the legal profession from lawyers who do the job every day. This includes how to get started, what does a lawyer actually do, and the process of taking a case to trial and trying the case.
Session One: (Monday, October 12, 2009, 6:00 pm) - “Getting There” will focus on what it takes to become a lawyer. This session will discuss the path from high school to college to law school to finding your job as an attorney. This session will give you both a roadmap to becoming a lawyer as well the insider’s view of the process and many helpful tips to help you succeed along the way.
Session Two: (Monday, October 19, 2009, 6:00 pm) - “What You Will Do Once You are There” will focus on providing students with a picture of what lawyers actually do on a day to day basis. This session will explain the many different tasks that lawyers are called upon to do on a daily basis. The second part of this session will be spent preparing the students for the hands-on lawyering experiences that the students will perform during the third session.
Session Three: (Monday, October 26 , 2009, 6:00 pm) - “Performing As If You Were There – Mock Trial” will provide the students with an opportunity to perform legal tasks such as counseling a client, deposing a witness and delivering a direct or cross-examination of a witness in front of a jury. These performances will give the students an opportunity to experience the excitement and pressures of a being a lawyer while exploring an interesting fact pattern involving a rancher’s battle with the wolves who keep taking young livestock.
